I’m writing you today with an important message. COVID-19 is endangering lives and pushing resources to the edge. Nationally, we are seeing protests against the inappropriate use of force by individuals meant to keep the community safe. And right here in our backyard, we are watching as gangs and violent criminals take advantage of our vulnerable communities.

As your Sheriff, my job is to keep you safe. It’s been my life’s work. Your Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is working to build community trust, utilize the latest training, and fighting back against gangs, violent criminals and threats to Homeland Security.

The good news is our efforts are working. In the last four years, we have seen big drops in the crime rate. In fact, overall crime is down 25% in Palm Beach County according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.  That’s because of smart police work and the relationships we have fostered with the community.

Today, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is leading the nation in police reforms. Years ago, PBSO took the lead in putting in place reforms that were necessary, and, just as important, the right thing to do. The Sheriff’s Office is an Accredited Excelsior Agency, follows “best practices,” and implemented the #8CantWait policy changes, including de-escalation strategies and bans on choke-holds. We don’t condone inappropriate use of force, because our job is to keep the community safe.

Community-based policing is at the forefront of everything we do. My background and experience is in community-based policing. The strategies we implement are models for agencies across the country. Your Sheriff’s Office works with the faith-based community, community organizations, youth programs, and business groups to build trust and work together to address crime and keep people safe. Crime is down, because we are working together.

We are stopping threats to homeland security. As the Sheriff of Palm Beach County, I am responsible for overseeing all Homeland Security for South Florida. That means Palm Beach County now receives additional funding, training, and information to keep our borders and neighborhoods safe from terrorists, drug traffickers, or others who want to harm U.S. citizens. I am the only candidate with the training, qualifications and credentials to lead this agency.

The gangs are on the run, and we are fighting back. Since your Sheriff’s Office launched “Operation First 48,” a multi-agency task force, we have successfully brought gang members and violent criminals to justice. Today, gangs and violent criminals only have one place to go – jail.

As your Sheriff, I take great pride in the work we do to keep you, your family, and your businesses safe. I’ve spent my entire career – from a patrolman to police chief to your Sheriff – focused on the sole mission of making our community a safe place to live, work, and visit.

I am asking for your vote, so I can continue to serve.

Please vote to re-elect Ric Bradshaw for Sheriff.

Thank you for your continued trust.
